How Studio 54 Fine Art Reviews an Artist Portfolio

What our gallery looks for in the work, presentation, pricing and professional readiness of every applicant. Published 11 August 2026 by Studio 54 Fine Art.

A portfolio review begins with the work

Studio 54 Fine Art reviews applications from emerging, mid-career and established artists worldwide. We begin with artistic quality: whether the work has conviction, whether a recognisable practice is developing and whether the submitted selection feels intentional rather than random.

A strong application does not need to contain an entire career. Five to ten carefully chosen works are usually more useful than a very large unedited archive. We want to understand what the artist is making now and what they want collectors to remember.

  • A coherent visual identity
  • A focused group of available works
  • Clear, professional images
  • Evidence of continued practice

Accurate information builds collector confidence

Every submitted work should include a title, year, medium, dimensions, price and availability. Photographs and edition-based works should also state edition size, artist proofs, print process, substrate and framing status.

These details are not administration for its own sake. When a collector enquires, the gallery must answer accurately and quickly. Missing measurements, conflicting prices or unclear availability can stop a serious conversation.

  • Titles, years and media
  • Dimensions in centimetres and inches
  • Edition information where relevant
  • Current retail price and location

Market fit and professional readiness

We consider how the work may sit within Studio 54 Fine Art’s international programme and whether it can be presented credibly through Artnet, Artsy or both. Acceptance is selective, and not every submitted artwork will necessarily form part of the first curated selection.

Professional readiness also matters. Artists must keep prices consistent, disclose other representation, update the gallery when work is sold or reserved and be able to pack work safely when a transaction progresses.

What happens after the review

Complete applications are normally reviewed within five working days. If the work is a potential fit, we contact the artist to discuss curation, the appropriate membership route and the next steps.

No payment is required simply to submit a portfolio. Accepted artists receive the current agreement and full commercial terms before making a commitment. Membership provides professional representation and visibility, but it cannot guarantee sales.
